What is the Bodyhoops Fit Kids Program?
Bodyhoops Fit Kids includes three main philosophical elements to creating fun and exciting hula hoop programs for youth ages 4-12.
Dance: Hoop dance, also known as hooping fitness, inspires creativity,
exploration and expression of movement with a hula hoop. The potential
for creating exciting and interesting choreography and hoop dance
routines is infinite. Each session includes hoop dance and skill
building along with simple hoop choreography exploration.
Exercise: The hooping fitness component of this program includes a
variety of skill building activities that promote development of
coordination, balance, range of motion, strength and cardiovascular
endurance. Hooping Fitness also combines moves on and off body that flex
and strengthen the core and the major muscles groups while providing an
effective aerobic workout.
Play: Each session includes time to explore the hoops in a variety of
ways including skill building games, free play, guided small group
exercises and individual discovery. The wide variety of games and skill
building sessions provide students with opportunities to explore
leadership, teamwork, coaching and problem solving in a fun and
inspiring atmosphere.
BodyHoops Fit Kids Instructor Training Purpose and Goals 1. To provide instructors with information and content to teach fun and effective hula hooping classes including age appropriate skill building exercises and games for ages 4-12 years. 2. To provide teaching techniques for basic hooping skills, progression of skills for children, and activities that can be used in a hoops class. 3. To provide sample class formats for younger and older youth groups. 4. To provide useful information on children’s psychology and physiology for instructors. 5. To provide tips on class management.
BodyHoops Fit Kids Instructor Objectives 1. Practice, and later, teach the basic skills of hooping. 2. Create a class session for the age range of students they will be teaching. 3. Know the progression of basic hooping skills to teach to multi-level classes within the group’s age range. 4. Understand and apply teaching techniques and age appropriate skills. 5. Focus on positive classroom management techniques for discipline.
